BACKGROUND STORY FOR THE RELEASE OF “GRAVITY” – REL. 09/18/2026 – EXPOSED TO NOISE
With “Gravity,” Exposed to Noise open a new chapter. The new single from the Ruhrpott quintet combines crushing metalcore with atmospheric moments and a chorus that pulls through the entire song like a suction force. It is precisely this interplay that brings “Gravity” to life: between letting go and holding on, between control and loss of control.
Content-wise, the song revolves around a toxic attraction that one cannot escape, despite knowing better. “Gravity” stands as a metaphor for a person or a connection that keeps pulling you back in. The harder you try to break free, the deeper you seem to sink into it.
“‘Gravity’ is about that feeling where you know exactly that something isn't good for you – and yet you keep going back,” explains vocalist Paddy. “You can tell yourself a hundred times that it’s over. You can gain some distance, try to cut off contact. But some part of you is still drawn back in. Just like with gravity: you can brace yourself against it, but you can’t simply switch it off.”
This ambivalence runs throughout the entire lyrics. While lines like “I can’t break free” or “You drag me deep” describe the fight against this attraction, it is also about one’s own willingness to keep returning to this cycle. The song does not simply tell the story of someone who is trapped, but rather someone who knows exactly that they are trapped – and yet doesn’t really want to leave.
“For me, that was the most important point of the song,” Paddy continues. “It’s not that classic ‘You’re bad for me, so I’m leaving you.’ It’s usually not that simple. There’s this craving at the same time. That ‘I know it’s bad for me – still I only land where your hands meet me.’ You know you’re falling, and yet that exact place somehow feels like home.”
Musically, too, “Gravity” captures this tension. The song moves between driving intensity and atmospheric passages, before repeatedly returning to its central pull. As a result, “Gravity” feels less like a linear story and much more like a cycle from which there is no escape.
This becomes particularly clear later in the song, when the struggle against the attraction turns into an existential question: What actually happens if you really cut the connection? If you let go of what has been holding you the whole time?
“‘If I cut the cord / Would I drift into nothing’ is exactly that moment for me,” says Paddy. “Maybe letting go isn't the biggest problem at all. Maybe it’s the fear of what comes after. If you’ve been orbiting someone or something for so long, eventually you don’t even know who you are without that person.”
In this way, “Gravity” is much more than a song about a toxic relationship. It is about dependency, self-deception, and the realization that sometimes you are part of the very cycle you want to break free from.
“Gravity” will be released on 09/18/2026.
